THE SINKING OF THE BISMARCK £18.00

THE SINKING OF THE BISMARCK
On May 27 1941 the mighty German battleship Bismarck is finally overwhelmed by the weight of Royal Navy firepower directed against her. Lying dead in the water, riddled with shell holes and on fire, her crew abandon ship while the order was given to scuttle the pride of the Kriegsmarine.

HMS Dorsetshire steams along her starboard side and fires two torpedoes to finish her off. Sinking by the stern, the Bismarck first turned on her side and then rolled over completely, disappearing below the waves at 10.40 am. The Dorsetshire stood by and began picking up survivors, but this operation was curtailed due to the fear of a U-Boat presence. Controversially, the British cruiser left hundreds of German sailors to perish in the icy Atlantic.

Printed with lightfast inks on Archival Matte Art Paper (largest print on Fine Art Watercolour Paper).
